Family portraits matter. Family portraits are important.
Well, they matter because they freeze time. My experience as a nanny and a school teacher taught me how quickly the time flies, and now as a mama - wow! It goes by in the blink of an eye. I think it's easy to sometimes get caught up in the mundane details of the every day. But, before you know it, you'll wake up one day and the hint of chubby baby cheeks will be gone from your toddler's face. Your first born will wake up a pre-teen with just the tiniest hint of "little man" in his face and you'll wonder how you're here already. It's the whole "the days are long but the years are short" thing, and we both know it's true.
I also believe family portraits are a gift to your children. Portraits tell your kids that they matter. they are loved and they belong somewhere.
How it Works
Outdoor family sessions are usually booked on Monday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. Outdoor sessions between 1-2 hours before sunset, and I'm kind of a stickler about this. Why? The light. The sunlight in the hour or two just before sunset is very much a part of my style. I know that sometimes that can mean a late start time in the summer months, but if you have littles, I can offer some tried-and-true tips to make a late evening more pleasant for your baby (and you!).
Indoor lifestyle family sessions are usually booked on weekend mornings.
When you're ready to book, I'll send you a contract and an electronic invoice for your retainer. When I get those back, you're officially booked! You'll get a guide with all my best tips for getting ready. We'll decide location, outfits, and any other important details. Sweet!
Your remaining balance is due three days before your session. I'll send you a reminder via email.
I'll touch base a day or two before you session to make sure we're all good to go.
Session day! Come ready to have fun and love on your family! Leave the rest to me.
After your session, you'll get your online gallery within three weeks. You can download your images, order prints and share online!
That's it. Pretty easy.
I want you to know...
Prior to becoming a mom, I was a special ed pre-k teacher! Actually, I still maintain my certification, but I taught special ed for 9 years in variety of settings with lots of different kiddos. When you combine my years of experience as a nanny and teacher, we're talking like, 20 years. Translation: I love kids! I get kids. If yours show up a little wild or shy, it's all good. Just be ready to love on them the best you know how. I'll handle the rest.
Hot tip: If your husband isn't super thrilled about the idea of a family portrait session he's not the first and I'm not offended. Give him a beer before hand (no, really), and then reassure him, he really doesn't even need to look at me if he doesn't want to!
I don't mind getting silly for the benefit and comfort of your babies. I'll apologize in advance for the bad dancing and worse singing.
In all honesty, I'm really not about the whole "everyone look at me and smile!" vibe. Sure, we'll get a few with you looking at the camera because I know grandma eats it up, but... I'm way more interested in you connecting with your family! I want to see you guys laughing and snuggling up and enjoying each other's company.
Let's do this!
