Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, y'all! I feel like 2019 went by in a blink, but I guess that's what happens when you're pregnant and house hunting and then moving and having a baby.


2019 brought so many dreams to life for us! We bought our first home, we welcomed our first baby, and I decided to stay home from the classroom to be with our daughter full time. If I had to pick a word to describe 2019, it would be "wildly grateful." Okay, that's two words, but truly...




I'm excited to see what 2020 has in store for us! Andrew is back to work after his paternity leave - he was home until Ruby was nearly five months old. The holidays are over and so I guess a new normal for us is taking shape. Ruby and I are trying to find our rhythm in our time together while Andrew is at work. Sometimes it's a challenge to be a present mama and give my business the attention it needs... but it's a challenge I greet with gratitude and optimism every day.


Of course, I think we can make a choice to change at any time of the year, but this is a time of year that I like to reflect on the past year. I like to take stock of what worked and what didn't, what went well, what I'd like to change, both in my personal life and my business.


A big "a-ha!" moment for me last year was moving away from "outcome oriented" goals and moving toward "action oriented goals." Why? Well, because I can't control outcomes. I can control my actions but not the results. And sometimes, when we have an outcome in mind and it doesn't come to fruition, the resulting feelings are not nice - disappointment, frustration, discontent. Maybe we think poor thoughts about ourselves or our lives, all over something we can't control! But our actions? We can control that. So, with that in mind, some of the actions I'm taking and habits I'm cultivating this year are:


  • 15 minutes of reading daily

  • 20 minutes of movement daily

  • Sole water daily

  • Positive affirmations daily

  • Gratitude list daily

  • One networking event monthly (this one really makes me sweat, haha! Where are my fellow introverts?)
